We were asked to test the award-winning ShakeSphere shaker bottle recently and we’d like to share our findings with you.

Designed with the needs of athletes, fitness enthusiasts and bodybuilders in mind, it’s also great for post meditational smoothies.

Rick Beardsell

ShakeSphere, like us, is a family-run business, headed up by CEO, founder and elite sprinter, Rick Beardsell.

He has numerous World and European Masters titles to his name.

Wellbeing & happiness

ShakeSphere strives to improve the health, wellbeing and happiness of everyone who uses its products. While combining the intimacy of a family business with worldwide client connectivity.

While we loved the product, and Peter found it great for shake making, we were also moved by Rick’s back story.

Dragon’s Den

As an athlete, he was keen to create an efficient and hygienic shaker bottle. And, in 2017, he pitched his product on Dragon’s Den.

His impressive entrepreneurial presentation secured him a £75,000 investment from Tej Lalvani and Deborah Meaden.

A million shakers worldwide

Their backing, with Rick’s dedication and commitment, created sales of more than a million shakers worldwide within two years.

Since then, the product has received awards from Men’s Health and Amazon.

Biggest challenges

Despite this amazing professional success, this time last year Rick was facing one of the biggest challenges of his life so far.

He was diagnosed with testicular cancer and told it had spread to his lungs and pancreas.

Survive

Naturally, he was worried about the business and how it would survive, but he focused on the positives. The family had more news, a baby boy was on the way.

All this fuelled Rick’s determination further and by May this year he was given the all clear.

Mental resilience

It was Rick’s mental resilience that ensured he overcame such a daunting threat to his life. And it’s this drive that powers his business vision.

As Rick says, battling cancer has been a ‘blessing-in-disguise’, opening his eyes to getting through the more trivial disappointments in life.

Leadership

Now ShakeSphere is battling the financially challenges that all businesses are facing with COVID-19.

Under Rick’s leadership, the team are expanding into Korea and Taiwan and have been approached to enter the European market too.

Another athletic record

Not content to rest on his laurels, Rick is also training to break another athletic record.

You can’t keep him down!

What’s special about the bottle?

It doesn’t use mixing accessories like a wire ball or mesh grid.

Instead centrifugal force is generated by a round, no-corners design to rapidly break down powder supplements.

Significantly, because there are no corners, nothing gets left in the bottle when you’ve finished with it.

This means less time cleaning it, but also saves money, as you don’t use as much powder to create your shake.

This, also, prevents the build-up of odours, which develop when undissolved powder lingers in the corners of other shaker bottles.

What we think of the ShakeSphere shaker bottle

This is a big piece of kit, designed for big hands if drinking out of it! It looks solid and has a military, boot camp style, fit for purpose look.

The curved base means all the shake dissolved, which is a big improvement over the Diet Chef shaker where residue is a problem. There was no wastage and no leaks too.

We used bananas, raspberries and low-fat milk, and it came out as a rough blend rather than a smoothie. But mixed it well.

We felt, pricewise, £19.99 was perhaps a bit high for the market at the moment, with everyone watching their pennies.

But, if it was available on QVC for £12 and Amazon for £10, then it would be snapped up, as it looks and feels like it is built to last.
